The 2014 N.H.L. free agency is now into day three and Edmonton Oilers general manager Craig Mactavish dipped in and made a couple signings. Mact was able to fill a couple holes in the lineup but it is blatantly clear that there are still more holes to fill.
The Edmonton Oilers are clearly a flawed team and general manager Craig Mactavish has the extremely difficult job to try and fix it and in short order. The collective group on the back-end was horrific, the size in the top six was embarrassing, the lack of depth on the bottom end was painfully obvious and the list goes on and on. Is it even possible for Mact to fill all the holes in one offseason???
I had the privilege of getting a free lunch at The Westin yesterday afternoon and the food was fantastic! I had the chicken and caesar salad. Oh ya… Craig MacTavish spoke to the crowd for a while as well and was very forthright answering every question sent his way. The season ticket holders asked good questions for the most part and Mact was very honest and didn’t beat around the bush. Here are a few tidbits.
The Edmonton Oilers 2013 2014 season has been a train wreck again. The team is in disarray, looks lost and some nights and looks broken on others. The defense is a debacle, the power play has went from one of the best in the league to one of the worst, the team looks like it won’t stick up for each other and still is the softest team in the league. Coach Buchberger and Smith continue to lose and the hiring of coach Eakins doesn’t look good at all.
The Edmonton Oilers are now 5-1-1 in their last seven games and look to have taken a step forward in their quest to reaching their ultimate goals of being Stanley Cup champions. By no means am I saying they are ready for the big time but anyone who’s watched their play of late can see the positive changes that have occurred before our eyes.
Last night new Oilers savior Ben Scrivens played out of his mind picking up a 59 save shutout in a 3-0 win over the San Jose Sharks. The Sharks had their way with the Oiler directing 100 shots at the Oilers net. 100 shots??? That can`t be right can it??? The great was Scrivens insane performance. The awful was the Oilers team in front of him.
